Tuesday — opening day of the 70th Annual Maine Agricultural Trades Show in Augusta.

Wednesday — Black Tie Provisions is teaching a cooking class.

ThursdayThe Great Lost Bear will be showcasing beer from Bray’s Brew Pub in Naples and a mead and cheese tasting is taking place at the Public Market House.

FridayRosemont Market is holding a wine tasting at their Brighton Ave location.

Saturday — the Winter Farmers Market in the morning, Black Cherry Provisions is holding a wine tasting starting at noon and Steff Deschenes, author of The Ice Cream Theory will be at Bull Moose in Scarborough for a book signing.

Friday — a Rwandan Cooking demonstration is taking place and the West End Deli is holding a wine tasting. It’s also the January First Friday Art Walk and restaurants will be busy so be sure to make reservations now.

Saturday — it’s the opening day of the Winter Farmers Market, Wine Wise is teaching a class on Italian Reds, Sonny’s is celebrating their 1st year anniversary and LeRoux is holding a wine tasting.

My own food wishes for 2011? Well, I hope the Missus gets her never ending wish for a less expensive and fulfilling Middle Eastern place(how about Emilitsa-lite?) and I would, in our great expansion of Asian places around town would love to be able to chow down at a Malaysian restaurant, even if it’s a chain. And tonight, in a perfect way to end the year, we’re revisiting the one local restaurant that completely left us speechless, Bresca.

Friday — Cinque Terre will be holding their annual Feast of the Seven Fishes dinner, 4-8, $65 per person. A number of restaurants will be open on Christmas Eve: Andy’s Old Port Pub, El Rayo, Eve’s at the Garden, Five Fifty-Five, Gritty’s, Haraseeket Inn, Havana South, Holiday Inn by the Bay, Sebago Brewing, The Corner Room, The Farmer’s Table, The Front Room, The Grill Room and Vignola are all planning on being open Christmas Eve.

Saturday — A select few restaurants are planning to be open on Christmas Day, some with special holiday-themed menus: Binga’s Stadium, Gritty’s, Holiday Inn by the Bay, Old Port Tavern, Passage to India, Pom’s Thai Taste, Twenty Milk Street, the Eastland Park Hotel, Haraseeket Inn in Freeport, Sable Oaks Marriott in South Portland and the Sea Glass Restaurant in Cape Elizabeth.

Thursday — there will be wine tastings at Browne Trading and Leavitt & Sons, and a beer and cheese tasting at the Public Market House. The Great Lost Bear will showcase 12 Christmas beers.
FridayRosemont Market is holding a wine tasting, and according to the Munjoy Hill News, Otto’s new location in the old North Star should be in full operation by Friday.
