WednesdayBon Appétit plans to announce the Top 10 best new restaurants of 2013 plus their choice for the overall best new restaurant of the year, and the Monument Square Farmers Market is taking place.

ThursdayLeslie Oster from Aurora Provisions will be the guest chef at this week’s Twilight Dinner at Turkey Hill Farm, there will be a summer beer tasting at the Bier Cellar and The Great Lost Bear will be showcasing beer from Captain Dick’s Brewery in Wells.

FridayWine Wise will set sail on the Frances for a tasting of Tuscan red wines.

Saturday — there will be a wine tasting at Browne Trading, and the Deering Oaks Farmers Market is taking place.

Baking for the Saint Peter’s Bazaar

Both the Press Herald and Bangor Daily News have published stories about the Saint Peter’s Bazaar which takes place this weekend on Saturday and Sunday.

Their general was Josephine Dulac, a 76-year-old retired first-grade teacher – who better to keep the troops in line? – wearing a white apron, blue gloves and a navy baseball cap. Dulac has been part of the cookie operation for 15 to 20 years, but shies away from taking any credit.

“I am not alone,” she said. “Far from it. We have people from 12 years old to 92 years old that work the cookie bake.”

Monday — Bunker is holding a release party for M.C.I.P.A. a new beer named in memory of one of the Beastie Boys.

WednesdayBlack Tie will be holding a farm dinner in New Gloucester, and the Monument Square Farmers Market is taking place.

ThursdayLeslie Oster from Aurora Provisions will be the guest chef at this week’s Twilight Dinner at Turkey Hill Farm, the second of the Supperpie dinner series will take place, there will be a wine tasting at the Public Market House and The Great Lost Bear will be showcasing beer from Pretty Things Beer and Ale Project.

Saturday — it’s the opening of the 88th Annual Saint Peter’s Bazaar,  home gardeners around Cumberland County are participating in Backyard Locavore Day and the Deering Oaks Farmers Market is taking place.

Friday — Wicked Good Street Kitchen, Portside Picnic, Mainely Burgers, el Corozan, Bite into Maine, and Pretty Awesome Street Food will be serving at Flea Bites in Bayside, and there will be a wine tasting at the West End Deli.

Saturday — there will be wine tasting at LeRoux Kitchen and Browne Trading, and the Deering Oaks Farmers Market is taking place.

Sunday — Rosemont is holding an event featuring the food and wine of North Lebanon.

Popups & Supperpie

The Bangor Daily News has published an article about Supperpie and other popup events taking place in Maine.

Food served in a new and often secret location by chefs who bring their “A” game is the dining trend of the moment. In Portland and across the state, more underground dinners are popping up this summer than ever.

At the helm last Thursday was Rocco Salvatore Talarico, a traveling chef who has cooked his way from San Francisco to South Portland and is working on a cookbook centered on his creative, international culinary style.

The next installment of Supperpie is scheduled to take place on August 8.

Tuesday — Dr. Walt Golet will be giving a lecture at GMRI on the migratory nature of tuna and swordfish.

Wednesday — Black Tie will be holding a Graze farm dinner in New Gloucester, and the Monument Square Farmers Market is taking place.

ThursdayBrad Messier & Erin Lynch from Rosemont will be the guest chef at this week’s Twilight Dinner at Turkey Hill Farm, there will be a wine and cheese tasting at the Public Market House, and it’s the last day of Vinland’s Kickstarter campaign which has so far raised $37,060 towards a $40k goal.

Saturday — Rabelais is holding their annual book sale (20-25% off), and the Deering Oaks Farmers Market is taking place.

Portland Brew Festival — the third big beer event taking place in Portland this summer, the Portland Brew Festival, is scheduled for August 30-31.

Hey Bartender

The movie “is the story of the rebirth of the bartender and the comeback of the cocktail.
