Erika Joyce on Research Tour

Erika Joyce, author of Vin et Grub, and the creator of Cloak & Dagger supper club and The Chinese Laundry pop-up, has announced that she’ll be leaving Portland for an extended research trip in Europe and Asia.

And now, it’s all changing.  The next step in my journey is to find the roots of my obsession.  To understand it and live it.  That’s why I’m moving on.  I’m hoping on a flight and making my way to Europe to see how and where food is produced.  I’m going to farm and pickle, and jam, and stage, and find the roots to make this picture slightly more vivid.  Sweden, Greece, Denmark, Italy, France.  And an extended stay in Vietnam.  I need to see my passion elsewhere in the world.

She’ll be running just one more Cloak & Dagger dinner and should have an update on the status of The Chinese Laundry “soon”.

Hush Hush #4: Diep 9 Genever

mapmenu_hush4

Map & Menu and Delicious Musings have both posted reports from Hush Hush #4, the well-curated cocktail and food event run by Andrew and Briana Volk from Portland Hunt & Alpine Club (website, facebook, twitter). This month’s Hush Hush featured drinks made with the Diep 9 Genever (see their photos) line of spirits and some very interesting food by chef David Levi of Vinland.

Implying “normal” when a Hush, Hush event is anything but is almost an affront, but you need to believe me when I say that Andrew Volk is redefining the norm when it comes to the way he approaches his craft cocktails and the impeccable taste that Portland Hunt & Alpine is exhibiting in its selection of chefs and spirits for these events. The Signature Event Wrap-up

Edible Obsessions has published a write up on Maine Restaurant Week’s Signature Event, a cocktail and dessert competition.

As the Missus and I walked into the Prime Mercedes-Benz show room this past Sunday, it felt like we were walking into an adult wonderland of booze and sugary treats. We were hardly alone, too, as roughly 500 other people joined us to ring the final bell of Restaurant Week with their ‘Signature Event,’ a competition of local pastry chefs and bartenders.

The Festival Tickets on Sale

Tickets for the craft beer event taking place in Portland this summer, The Festival, are now on sale.

According to organizers, the event will be bringing “70 of the best beer, cider and mead makers” serving “200 of the best beers, ciders, and meads from all over the world” with producers on-hand to talk about their product.

The Festival is organized by Shelton Brothers and 12 Percent Imports. It will be taking place at the Portland Yacht Services Building on Fore Street.
