Little Spruce Baking Co. Launched

Big Tree Hospitality, the restaurant group that includes Eventide, Hugo’s and  The Honey Paw, has launched their newest venture, the Little Spruce Baking Company (instagram).

Baked goods went on sale yesterday at the Saco River Farmers’ Market in Biddeford. The options included a Pizza Croissant (tomato jam, ricotta, peperoni), Moonstruck (egg, maitake mushroom, mustard greens), PB&J Croissant (strawberry jam, peanut glaze, sprinkles) and Sourdough loaves.

Yet another reason to visit Biddeford on top of Rabelais, Palace, Elda, Sweet Cream, 2 distilleries, 2 breweries, etc.

Sebago’s New Brewery Opens Today

The Press Herald has published an article about Sebago’s new brewery and tasting room in Gorham. The new brewery is located on Route 25. It is slated to open to the public today.

For starters, it’s just bigger. The largest fermentation vessel at its previous location – about a mile away – made 1,240 gallons of beer at a time. Now it has two fermenters that make nearly 5,000 gallons at a time – and capacity to add two more just like them.

2 Beer Releases: Imperial Stout, Oat IPA

Mast Landing and Battery Steele are releasing Ice Cream Imperial Stout, a new collaboration between the two breweries. The beer is brewed with “[h]undreds of waffle cones in the mash, lactose and a bucket of sprinkles in the boil, then conditioned on vanilla beans.

Battery Steele also plans to release Onsight #3, which they describe as an “Oat IPA (6.5%) heavily hopped with Galaxy, Nelson and Rakau. Very soft, almost no bitterness and busting with notes of passion fruit, pineapple, mango and hints of pine”.

The Proper Cup Now Open

The Proper Cup (website, facebook, instagram) opened for business this morning. The new coffee shop is located at 500 Forest Ave on the corner of Noyes Street.

Owners Rachel Kreie and Zachary Figoli are serving coffee from Flight Coffee Company and baked goods from HiFi Donuts in their “quirky, professional and industrial themed cafe“.

The Proper Cup brings a third option for specialty coffee—Parlor Coffee at Rose Foods and Vivid Coffee at Little Woodfords being the other two—to a section of Forest Ave that just a year ago had none at all. I expect we’ll continue to see rapid change in the retail food scene on Forest from USM to Woodfords Corner in the next few years.
