Bier Cellar opened for business yesterday. They are located on Forest Ave adjacent to the entrance to Hannaford.

Spread is now open for dinner. The restaurant is located at 100 Commercial Street in the former location of Gaucho’s and Oolong.

LFK opened on Monday. They’re located in Longfellow Square in the space formerly occupied by Cunningham Books. You can see their drink menu on Facebook.

Captain Sam’s Ice Cream opened over the weekend. They’re located at 136 Commercial Street in the former home of Bubble Tea.

Maine a la Carte has published a pair of reports on Speckled Ax coffee shop which officially opened today,

 Even with a steady stream of customers today (despite a total lack of signage on the street), the shop was producing coffee that was pretty darn near perfect.

ust in time for summer, the Maine Squeeze Juice Cafe opened its Public Market House stand on Saturday, bringing fresh juices and smoothies to Portland’s downtown office workers.

There are two new food blogs writing about food in and beyond Portland:

• Perceptive Dining Diningsense plans on examining  “the ways in which Maine restaurants inscribe themselves within the national culinary landscape.” The author has kicked off the blog with a review of Back Bay Grill.
• Map & Menu is produced by a Portland-area couple to share their travel and dining experience in Maine and across the country. They’ve recently posted a review (and some beautiful photos) of Petite Jacqueline.

Crema opened for business today. The coffee shop is located near the corner of India and Commercial Streets adjacent to the new Rosemont Produce store.

Catbird Creamery is holding an hot chocolate ice cream social to celebrate the grand opening of their new shop in Westbrook at 2pm today. Catbird’s new shop is located at 846 Maine St.
