Under Construction: Local Sprouts Cafe
The Local Sprouts Cafe is under construction at 645 Congress. The Community Supported Cafe is getting help from its membership for a variety of light construction projects now until the targeted opening date in April. As you can see from the photo (above) taken by Michael Barriault of PortlandTown there’s still a lot that needs to be done to realize the vision mapped out in the blueprints (below).
The left hand side of the blueprint is the front side of the building that faces Congress Street.
Coming, Going and Expanding
Here are some under construction update:
- Mexico Lindo has closed up shop at their location on Forest Ave. There’s a sign up promoting a turnkey ready space for a someone looking to open a new restaurant.
- A new sandwich shop to be called Mr. Sandwich & Mrs. Muffin is under construction at 3 Deering Ave. That space was formerly occupied by Pazzano’s Coffee Shop and still has the orange facade from when Percy’s was their. In the more distant past it had been the home of Honey’s Place.
- Shima is planning to expand into the vacant space in their building on Fore Street. From what I can determine from the blueprints, the two spaces aren’t adjacent to one another but would be joined on the basement level where Shima’s kitchen is now.
- Local Sprouts supplied a draft menu as part of their liquor license application. You can take a look at it on page 34 of the agenda for the upcoming Portland City Council meeting.
Pre-Nosh
For those of you eagerly awaiting the opening of Nosh, you can get some pre-noshing in by perusing the eatery’s menu which is now available on their website.

Under Construction: Nosh Kitchen Bar
The Portland Daily Sun published a report on Nosh Kitchen Bar, the lounge/delicatessen that’s slated to open in the old White Heart spot on Congress Street.
The “urban-style eatery” will combine casual dining and drinks.
“It’s a bar, it’s a lounge, it’s kind of a mix between an old-school New York delicatessen and a new school sandwich shop during the day, and at night we go in the direction more of small-portion antipasta type (meals),” said [co-owner Jason] Loring.
Check out Original Portland for a photo of the interior and Nosh’s website for some additional details.
Under Construction: Sonny's
PortlandTown has published some interior photos of Sonny’s and details on its planned opening this Friday night.
Well the buzz for Local 188’s Jay Villani’s new place… Sonny’s, 83 Exchnge Street, at Post Office Park is about to get a little louder with the opening night happening this Friday at 5PM. You’ll be able to sample some of the South American tinted menu like Brazilian Style Mussels, Fried Plantains and Yam Fries, Rice & Beans, Empanadas and Cuban Chicken. They’ll have a cash bar and a party atmosphere! I’ll be there taking more pictures so the next post will have both food & foodies, so dress to kill.
