Under Construction: The Corner Room
I took a look in the window (see above) at the site of Harding Smith’s upcoming restaurant, The Corner Room. Construction seems to be moving right along. Building plans supplied to the city (see below) show the curved bar now being built.
El Rayo
Sol Foods LLC, the company behind the new Mexican restaurant under construction on York Street, won approval last night from the Portland City Council for a liquor license. They were planning on calling the restaurant Taco Land but have decide to go by El Rayo instead. Their liquor license application includes a draft menu.
Over Grow Organic Cafe
Portland Psst! is reporting on a new cafe and “juice joint” called Over Grow Organic Cafe going in at 437 Congress St.

Portland City Council
This week’s meeting of the Portland City Council resulted in the passage of an ordinance to permit Portlanders to raise chickens, denial of a liquor license for Cactus Club (which will stay open pending an appeal), and passage of liquor licenses for two new establishments, Pearl and The Farmer’s Table.
What's New in the Old Port
Portland in a Snap has a report on a number of new eateries that are under construction in the Old Port: Bard Coffee Roasters, Luna Rossa, Wasabi, The Corner Room and The Farmer’s Table.
Chickens, Pearls, etc
The Portland City Council is scheduled to meet Wendnesday night. Urban chickens are on the agenda (link is to a large PDF) as is a liquor license for Pearl, a bar that’s proposed for the former location of Onyx, revisiting the vote on the Cactus Club, as well as liquor licenses for The Farmer’s Table and Typerwriter Tavern. Paperwork submitted to the city confirms that Jeff Landry is behind The Farmer’s Table and includes a draft menu (see page 120 of the agenda).

Portland Psst! is reporting that a new restaurant called The Farmer’s Table is slated for 205 Commercial Street at the old Mims location.
Taco Land
The program for the Maine Garden Show’s Meet the Chefs program indicates that new Mexican restaurant slated for York Street is going to be called Taco Land. It was originally thought that Taco Land was going to be located at the old spot for the Icehouse but it now looks like it will be just down the street where Harbor View Pizza used to be.
