This past Sunday falling ice totaled bartender Adam Sousa’s car which was parked on Exchange Street. Sousa’s insurance doesn’t cover falling ice and so friends have set-up a gofund.me page to help raise money for Sousa to replace his car.
The local chapter of the United States Bartenders Guild is holding a fundraiser this Sunday at DiMillo’s, 3-5 pm. A portion of the sales from the drink specials will go toward the the gofund.me campaign.
Mrs. D and I enjoyed a most glorious dining experience a few nights ago and it was a jewel that has always been right under our turned up noses. DiMillo’s on Long Wharf. My goodness have things changed since we were last there years ago! It is “locals season” for sure with patrons happily clustered around their large oval bar or at tables in front of the fireplace. The clam chowder was smokey with chewy bites of mollusk in each bite. Mr’s D’s fried oysters were fresh, flavorful and tempura crisp. My grilled haddock and fingerlings were perfect in their simple and unadorned presentation, the way God intended. I get tired chasing the new and trendy in this food obsessed town, often disappointed with the overly creative, the pretentious, the crowded rooms, the noisy patrons, the heavily salted food, the sticker shock and the tiny portions. DiMillo’s is the antidote when I get weary of eating in Food Town, USA.
