An additional wine tasting has been added to this week’s calendar. There will be a wine and cheese tasting at the Public Market House on Friday at 4:30.
This Week’s Events
On Monday the next Piatto per Tutti cooking class is being held. Governor Baldacci will be on hand for the grand opening at the new Borealis Breads on Tuesday. There are 6 wine tastings scheduled this week: at Old Port Wine Merchants on Wednesday, at Downeast Beverage, Browne Trading and Leavitt & Sons on Thursday, at Rosemont on Friday and at Kitchen & Cork on Saturday. There’s a showing of the movie The Garden at SPACE Gallery on Thursday. Also on Thursday, Vignola is hosting a Holiday Ale Night and The Great Lost Bear is showcasing holiday themed brews. PeRx-U-Up Cafe Opens
PeRx-U-Up Cafe is now open in the first floor of the InterMed building.
Cafe at Pat's
Cafe at Pat’s received 3½ stars from this week’s Taste & Tell review in the Maine Sunday Telegram.

Wasabi
A liquor license application has been filed with the City Council for a new sushi bar named Wasabi. The owners plan on building Wasabi at 7 Exchange Street in a portion of the space now occupied by Betsy’s. America’s Kitchens
America’s Kitchens by Nancy Carlisle and Melinda Talbot Nasardinov was reviewed in today’s paper. The book tells the story of “this pivotal room from the earliest New England hearths to the latest forms of culinary theater.”
Bicoastal Food Rivalry
The bicoastal food rivalry carries on at Blogtown, a blog run by left coast Portland’s weekly newspaper. The baiting also come with the olive branch offer of a food writer exchange. (via Original Portland).

Joe’s New York Pizza has opened for business on Fore Street in the location formerly occupied by Granny’s Buritos.
Winter Farmers' Market
The Munjoy Hill News is reporting that a Farmers’ Market will be operating in Monument Square through Winter and Spring every other Wednesday afternoon. According to the article the next market will take place December 24.
Beertown, USA
Beer Examiner has done a statistical survey to answer the question “Where is Beertown, USA?” Their measure is the number of breweries per capita. Portland is now #7 on the list (1 brewery for every 15,706 people) but they continue to update it as new data comes in. (via Portland Psst!).
