Atsuko Fujimoto opened the current location of Norimoto Bakery on Stevens Ave on October 23, 2021.

Fujimoto won the Outstanding Baker or Pastry Chef award from the James Beard Foundation in 2024.

Portland Food Map launched in 2007 as a simple directory of the local food community. Acclaimed chef Masa Miyake has leased a pair of ad Acclaimed chef Masa Miyake has leased a pair of adjacent space in Bayside where he plans to launch a restaurant and Japanese-style convenience store. The new businesses are a family project that are being worked on by Miyake along with his son Reo Miyake and Reo’s partner Helen Carter. The Aomori team shared, “We are especially excited about Aomori and Aomori Market + Kitchen because they will be family-run businesses. These projects allow us to bring together our experiences from both Maine and Japan, creating something very personal. Once we are up and running, we hope to extend this family-focused model to our customers and employees, creating a space that is welcoming to all.” Aomori Restaurant (@aomori_restaurant) will be located in the corner space next to Hanover Street. The 40-seat restaurant will include a bar, table seating, and a 6-8 seat chefs counter and will have outdoor seating during the summer. The concept is of a casual Japanese restaurant inspired by Maine and Japan’s Tohoku Region serving small plates inspired by classic izakaya dishes and Japanese home cooked meals. Aomori Kitchen and Market (@aomori_conbini) will be modeled after the conbini convenience stores in Japan—an all-day combination convenience store, cafe, bar and quick service eatery. The market will stock Japanese specialty items as well as some basic everyday essentials. Cold and hot food (karage, nigiri, etc) will be available to grab and go, or to enjoy at one of the markets 10 counter seats. In the evening it will also serve as waiting area bar for customers before getting seated at the restaurant. The 1,500 and 1,800 square foot space are located at 52 Hanover Street and the hope is to have both businesses open before the end of the year. Masa Miyake opened Food Factory Miyake in 2007 at 129 Spring Street. The small BYOB sushi bar quickly developed a reputation for excellence. The restaurant moved to its present location on Fore Street in 2011 and for a time the original space was home to Miyake Diner, an izakaya-style restaurant. Pai Men Miyake opened on September 15, 2010. In early 2024 he sold his restaurants to two members of his staff. #mainefood #konbini
LB Kitchen (@lbkitchenportlandme) owners Lee Farri LB Kitchen (@lbkitchenportlandme) owners Lee Farrington and Bryna Gootkind are opening their new business (@lbminimart) at the Rock Row Health Campus this morning. The 600-square-foot market will be selling grab-and-go versions of their salads, soups, sandwiches, breakfast items, and house-made bottled beverages (see photos 6/7 for the menu). It will have an espresso bar serving coffee, functional lattes, tea, hot bone broth and house-made baked goods. The market also sells a wide selection of snacks, beverages, pantry staples and retail items from other producers. The market is located alongside New England Cancer Specialists, the Dempsey Center and other medical care providers which together are intended to deliver a more holistic approach to patients. Chef Farrington shared, “We are experts at creative workarounds and functional substitutions. We want all our customers, and the Rock Row Health Campus patients especially, who may feel limited by specific dietary needs or restrictions to feel hopeful and expansive when they choose LB. MINI-MART meals, snacks or treats. We’ve done the thinking to make alternative food options that taste and feel good.” This is the first location for LB’s new Mini-Mart concept. Farrington and Gootkind are planning to launch additional outposts in the Greater Portland area—watch for details to be released later this year. The original LB Kitchen opened in 2017 and moved to the corner of Smith and Congress Streets in 2023. Hours for the market are Monday through Friday, 7 am – 5 pm. Taco Trio (@tacotriosopo) has reopened. They’ve Taco Trio (@tacotriosopo) has reopened. They’ve relocated the restaurant to their original building at 119 Ocean Street in South Portland. Owner Karen Rasmussen and her team held a soft opening on Saturday and will be open for business six days a week starting Monday. The newly renovated space includes a 9-seat bar and table seating for ~25. The menu (5th photo) remains largely the same. Shown here (2nd photo) is a plate of Enchiladas Rojas (chicken, tomato and arbol sauce topped with sour cream, red onions, radish, lettuce and avocado) with rice, pinto beans and chips. Taco Trio will be open Monday through Wednesday, 4 – 9 pm, and Thursday through Saturday 11 am – 9 pm. The restaurant opened in 2011 and moved to larger quarters at 60 Ocean Street in 2021. A new Filipino restaurant called Barkada (@barkada A new Filipino restaurant called Barkada (@barkadamaine) is under development. Chefs Nicole and Ben Bowers and business partners Margaret and Luka Dow hope to launch a Barkada food truck this summer and a Filipino fast casual restaurant with the same name this fall at 25 Pearl Street. At the restaurant they plan to serve “authentic Filipino cuisine, offering a mix of classic dishes and modern takes” with options like lechon liempo, grilled meats, wok-cooked specialties. The team shared that their “goal is to provide a welcoming, casual space where customers can enjoy bold, comforting Filipino flavors.” The menu on the food truck will lean into street-style, grab-and-go food like Filipino tacos and nachos which they plan to serve in Dorito bags. Nicole and Ben Bowers will be the chefs for Barkada. Nicole Bowers is originally from the Philippines. She and Ben Bowers met while attending the Institute of Culinary Education in NY. They’ve worked in Michelin-starred restaurants including for Daniel Boulud. Prior to moving to Maine they worked as private chefs in Florida. Tomaso’s Pizza and Burger Bar (@tomasos.bar) is Tomaso’s Pizza and Burger Bar (@tomasos.bar) is scheduled to open on Tuesday at 4 pm. It is located at 51 Wharf Street in the space formerly occupied by The Rathskeller. This new Tomaso’s is a sister restaurant to Tomaso’s Canteen on Hampshire Street. Sam Minervino of Samuel’s along with business partner Scott Olsen will be serving a menu that includes 10 inch pizzas, burgers like the Chili Cheese Smash (double smash burgers with sauteed onions, jalapenos, chili and beer cheese sauce), wings, chicken sandwiches, veggie burgers and red snappers. The menu also includes fish and chips, fish tacos, an assortment of salads and apps and sides. Nearly everything on the menu is under $20. The draft and canned beer list includes national and local brands. Tomaso’s will also have a small selection of wines by the glass, “combo” drinks like the Canjello (Budweiser and a jello shot) and some cocktails like an Old Port Mule (Ice Pick vodka, ginger beer and lime) and a Tomaso’s Collins. Cargo Pizza Company (@cargopizzacompany) is opened Cargo Pizza Company (@cargopizzacompany) is opened on Thursday. The food truck turned restaurant is located at 1053 Forest Ave in the space formerly occupied by Falafel Time. Cargo is serving a menu of “Neo-Neapolitan/New Haven-style” pizza, smash burgers, and apps like mozzarella sticks, fries, and wings for lunch and dinner. Their range of specialty pizzas includes a Bee Sting (red sauce, parmesan, jalapeno, peperoni and hot honey) and a Bianca (garlic oil, parmesan, spinach, ricotta) as well as Maggarita, BBQ Chicken and 11 other options. Pizzas come in 10 and 14 inch sizes. In the mornings Cargo also has grab and go breakfast sandwiches and coffee to go. The restaurant will initially be open Wednesday through Sunday with plans to expand operations to seven days a week.
