Bob’s Clam Hut (website) in Kittery is opening a second location at 109 Cumberland Ave in Portland.
According to their press release:
Bob’s Clam Hut is actively involved in securing space for a second restaurant location at 109 Cumberland Avenue in Portland, ME. The Portland property will be an extension of the award-winning Kittery-based seafood restaurant that opened its iconic roadside stand over 60 years ago. Sticking to its roots, Bob’s Portland location will continue its emphasis on classic New England seafood, but with a few tweaks to offerings that better align with the Portland dining community and leverage distinct features of the new space.
Bob’s has been in business since 1956.
109 Cumberland was formerly the home of 3 Buoys Seafood Shanty & Grille, which closed earlier this year.
This is a mistake.
I thought it was weird they were doing pop-ups at Oxbow Brewing and such. Now I see why…
They do a great business in Kittery, but they have to deal with parking issues and have attendants to help. Almost no parking at old 3 Buoys location. Classic clam shack. Best of luck.
Interesting. I think this has a good shot to make it. A lot of people seemed to really like 3 Buoys for fried seafood (4.5 stars on Yelp). I personally thought it looked super sketchy and any restaurant that advertises that they make just about everything (Fried dough! Burgers! Clams! Wings! Chicken! Shrimp!) makes me wonder how they’re keeping those things separately. Bob’s could do it right. I just moved from the area, but would have loved to be able to walk to somewhere and get good, cheapish, fried seafood. Best of luck!
They failed at Sugarloaf, will fail in Portland, too.
