And that article solves the mystery of the food truck claiming to be doing Arabic BQ. The food product known as shawarma is not by any stretch BQ but rather is a sort of ethnic spam as it consists of ground up beef and often lamb reshaped into a tubular meat product with various spices that stuck on a spit and slowly rotated to keep it warm.
When a customer wants a sandwhich, be it a gyro or what it’s called in a given culture, a portion of it is shaped off the tube of meat and served along with what the culture puts on its version of a gyro. It’s tasty, but BQ it ain’t. But the Hawaiians have been known to barbeque spam, so there you are.
